Search Drive, Bear & South – Part 3

Backyard or room search

Now Bear and South are starting to understand the search game, they need less prompts to start searching. They now understand the routine of waiting behind the door and hearing the cue “search.” So they will blast around their backyard searching, without me needing to put the cones or other objects out. I can still do this for fun, but I can now also just ask them to search the yard for hidden treats. They have each built their search drive such that they will search for up to 4 or 5 minutes at a time.

This was the goal of my training with Bear and South, to teach them an easy and stimulating activity that their owners can practice with them in the evening when they come home from work. This is now how Bear and South eat their dinner a few times a week. It’s a really fun way to add some stimulation to their lifestyle.
